Want that special smooth, glowing skin? When concerned about family health, Moms and Dads often see their teens suffer from the pain and embarrassment of teen acne. Our most common skin disorder, acne is characterized by whiteheads, blackheads, pimpls, and cysts. A buildup of an oily substance called serum mixed with bacteria, dead skin cells, and other debris clogs pores, leading to one or more forms of acne.
If acne doesn’t respond to self-care within three months, see a doctor.
Long-standing herbal remedies for acne include clover, aloe Vera, lavender, and lemon balm. They should each be applied to the skin as a lotion.
Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables for vitamins A and C, whole grains and cereals for B vitamins and zinc, and lean meat, poultry and fish for zinc. Avoid kelp supplements and iodized salt.
Other Remedies
Encourage your teens to develop simple daily skin care routines. At night, rinsing the face in clear warm water, is a great start. Using mild, unscented soaps and splashing the face with water to rinse is best. There are many non-irritating creams on the market that will also help clear up blemishes. Pick a good brand, and stick with it!
A clear skin is reflected through healthy eating and skin cleaning habits. Glow from within!
